„About Berlin 2“ out now!
The second issue of About Berlin Magazine has been published. It is a BI-own magazine format, which was conceived, implemented and produced by the first semester students of the BA program Graphic Design and Visual Communication, all on their own initiative and with the help of our course tutors, Prof. Alexander Tibus and Rebecca Kopiecki.
The 2nd issue of About Berlin Magazine is very appealing, both in terms of design and content. We are proud of the 64 pages and a total of 13 articles about Berlin, which were completely produced at BI by 27 students from 23 different countries.
Enjoy this authentic original designed by students from all over the world and use our very personal travel guide to explore Berlin.
Developing creative personality
As our BA Graphic Design & Visual Communication study program promises, throughout the project, our students had the opportunity to do practical exercises such as creating layouts, bookbinding, or drawing and to familiarize themselves with software skills, design thinking, and creative techniques. The practical approach was thus aimed at developing their creative personality - which is fully reflected in this issue!
All articles in the magazine were written and designed by teams of two. There are various highlights on the pages: humorous irony, bold illustrations, and also beautifully designed stories.
The project demonstrates the basics of editorial design, including research, copywriting, editing, and illustration. The magazine was carefully printed, folded, cut, and stapled for you by our students.
Summer in Berlin by Max Palau & Temitope Manuel Kamara
FACES in SPACES by Lisa Twamley & Vera Solevska
Even though the pandemic made the whole process more difficult, our students were able to get the best out of the project! Under various problematic phases such as the lockdown and online teaching, they delivered an amazing project. The student who designed the overall layout and supervised the actual production was even stuck in Istanbul for months because of the lockdown!
The About Berlin Magazine was created as part of the course "Introduction to Graphic Design 1". The course teaches, among other things, creative techniques, idea generation methods, the basics of semiotics as well as layout and the use of softwares.
