The deadlines for a nomination by your own university are respectively:
- 31.10. for the following summer semester at Berlin International University of Applied Sciences
- 30.04. for the following winter semester at Berlin International University of Applied Sciences
After a successful nomination by your university, the deadlines for the supplementary direct application are:
- 15.11. for the following Spring Semester at Berlin International University of Applied Sciences
- 15.05. for the following Winter Semester at Berlin International University of Applied Sciences
For an exchange semester as an "incoming" student, please note that your own university must be one of our partner universities. In addition, you must first be nominated for the exchange by the partner university. Only then can you apply directly to us.
Students in undergraduate studies (Bachelor and comparable) take part in the modules of the 2nd year. Participation thus takes place:
- In the 3rd semester of the respective study program when applying for the winter semester
- In the 4th semester of the respective study program when applying for the summer semester
Unfortunately, participation in courses in further academic years is not possible for logistical and capacity reasons. Students in the advanced study program (MA/MBA) take part in classes in the 3rd semester of the respective study program when applying for the winter semester, if an exchange is possible. This is possible if there are available capacities in the respective study program. As the MA/MBA study programs are conducted in small study groups, the capacity will be checked on request.
Please note that Erasmus exchanges are normally only possible for one semester. Only in case of an urgent request by our partner universities, we can check the capacity of the respective study program and possibly grant an extension after the nomination phase.
We normally receive applications from more students from our partner universities than we have available places at any one time. The application process is therefore competitive. Architecture and Design students should prepare their required portfolio with great care. Students of Business Administration should pay special attention to the preparation of their letter of motivation (= reasons for choosing Berlin International, comparable focus between the study programs of both universities, etc.).

All BI students in their first or second semester can apply for a third or fourth semester at one of our partner universities listed under Erasmus+ for study purposes.
The application for an Erasmus+ study semester consists of two steps:
- The internal application at BI
- The direct application to the chosen partner university
If your internal application is successful, we will nominate you to the chosen partner university, which will then send you information on how to submit a direct application. Please note that we can only nominate two students to one of our partner universities - therefore the internal application form will ask for a first and second choice. We may not always be able to nominate you for your first choice. Places with our English-speaking partners in Italy and Spain are always particularly oversubscribed. For this reason, you will not be able to nominate an IED location for both choices.
If your application is successful, you will receive a grant from the European Commission towards your living costs during your Erasmus+ study semester.

The deadline for an application for an Erasmus+ internship semester is 1st August.
These should be sent by e-mail to the International Exchange Office. Please write "Outgoing SMP Application" in the subject line of your email.
You should know the result of your application within two weeks.
All BI students can apply for Erasmus+ funding for their fifth-semester internship for training purposes.
Fill in our application form and send it together with your CV, academic transcript, motivation letter, and internship approval form by e-mail to the International Exchange Office.
If your application is successful, you will receive a grant from the European Commission towards your living costs during your Erasmus+ placement.
