Irish & German Economic Links in Perspective
Understanding economic integration is paramount for any business leader. Professor Erick Behar, Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration, together with Professors Jennifer Hynes, Hasan Koc, and Peter Mantel, as well as Mr. Pedro Rangel, M.Sc., conducted a study outlining the development of the economic relationship between Ireland and Germany over the past decade. The research examines the strength of this partnership through international trade and investment data, a broad macroeconomic analysis, and a review of key topics covered in the press.
The study was presented at an event on May 14, 2025, at the Embassy of the Republic of Ireland in Berlin. During the event, following the words of the Irish Minister of State Neale Richmond, Ambassador Maeve Collins and Stefanie Ziska, CEO of the German-Irish Chamber of Commerce, Professor Behar outlined how macroeconomic integration has contributed to strengthening a historical partnership between the two countries, but also generally for the European Union.
Among the attendees were students from the Introduction to Economics seminar, who gained valuable insights into the economic ties between Ireland and Germany. They also had the opportunity to engage with diplomats and subject matter experts during the visit of Minister Richmond to Germany. This topic is also relevant to the Economic Policy course in the MBA program, which includes annual guest lectures and collaboration activities with at least one embassy.
“For us at the Faculty of Business, these close cooperation experiences are a fundamental pillar in enriching our teaching and research activities. Involving our students ensures they gain a practical understanding of economic matters, which is essential for any business graduate”, said Professor Behar.
Using the storytelling method, economics and economic policy classes at Berlin International are taught in a memorable and accessible way, enabling students to grasp complex ideas with clarity and apply them in practice. With this new publication, there will be more stories of success to tell.
