Munch is a service for children aged 6-12. Its mission is to give kids the opportunity to have fun with food while developing an awareness of healthy nutrition. The service targets grocery stores that encourage kids to pack their own lunchboxes with healthier options, such as grapes, carrots, and bananas.
When a vegetable or smoothie is scanned with the hand scanner, the according animated characters pop up in an Augmented Reality view in the Munch booth. Kids then can interact with their veggie character on the live feed.
When designing Munch’s identity, the design team used illustrated animations to make healthy foods more appealing, with basic and easy-to-understand facts. To make the design easy to use for kids, the students chose a fun and rounded typeface called Chennai, which was also used as the basis for their character designs.
