Mio Kojima
Graphic Design and Visual Communication
Mio Kojima (she/they) is a German-Japanese design educator, publisher, and researcher focusing on knowledge politics and social justice in design. Drawing from intersectional feminist pedagogy, decolonial theory, and self-organised methodology, Mio’s practice critically examines the conditions and formats of learning and coming together.
Along with Maya Ober, Mio is co-director of the intersectional feminist platform for design politics Futuress, that problematizes the role of design in systems of oppression and discrimination and explores design’s potential for social change. Beyond Futuress, Mio’s work often centers around the format of propositions — protocols of self-organised structures, bodily exercises, and critical interventions — to discuss the politics of collaboration and space-making. Until 2024, Mio was engaged in various formats to develop creative research with children and teens and to bring socio-political issues to schools. Mio speaks and teaches at various universities in Germany and Switzerland
