Datawrapper: Better living through data
Data is everywhere. How can we make sense of it, and communicate effectively? Organized by Prof. Jakob Lehr, students of the 2019 Data Visualization course visited the headquarters of Datawrapper in Prenzlauer Berg to kick off the semester. Datawrapper provides online tools to turn plain data into attractive charts and maps, and was co-founded by former graphics editor at The New York Times Gregor Aisch.
Hosted by Data Vis pundit and designer Lisa Rost, students learned about Datawrapper's flagship product, followed by a lively Q&A session about anything related to data visualization. Should I try coding to become a better designer, how do I get to work full-time as a data visualizer, and what is a Marimekko Chart?
Inspired by Datawrapper's online Datavis Book Club and equipped with ano list of promising data sources, students will design own visualization posters, to be featured in Berlin International's new permanent showcase.
