About Lacaton & Vassal
Since the mid 1980es the office has revolutionized the way we work with low cost materials, how we upgrade social housing and how educational and cultural buildings can look like. Their collaborative work focuses on climate-friendly and social construction. They are known for their conversions in the field of social housing. Their aim is to preserve and convert buildings rather than demolish them. In doing so, they also incorporate the needs of the respective residents into their work. Their practice, Lacaton & Vassal, has been awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award, Trienal de Lisboa (2016); and the Fundació Mies van der Rohe, European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture (2019) along with Frédéric Druot Architecture and Christophe Hutin Architecture for the transformation of 530 Dwellings at Grand Parc, Bordeaux. Recently, the architectural duo Anne Lacaton and Jean-Philippe Vassal received the most renowned prize in architecture: the Pritzker Prize, endowed with 100,000 euros.
