BI Alumni Spotlight: An Interview with Radosław Piotrowski
From MBA to Mobile Innovation
At Berlin International University of Applied Sciences, we take pride in seeing our graduates turn their ideas into impact. Today, we’re excited to share the journey of Radosław Piotrowski, an MBA alumnus whose passion for entrepreneurship and innovation led him to launch Meet and Play, a mobile app designed to connect people through sports.
In this interview, Radosław reflects on his MBA experience, the lessons that shaped his entrepreneurial mindset, and the story behind bringing his app from concept to reality.
1. Could you briefly introduce yourself and share what you’ve been up to since graduating?
The MBA period was an extremely intense time for me. I combined studying, working, and developing my own mobile application project. During my studies, I worked for a large international company, GetYourGuide, which specializes in selling and organizing tours, tickets, and tourist attractions around the world. I held the position of Working Student in Finance. This experience allowed me to understand how a well-organized company operates from the inside and gave me the opportunity to work with fantastic people.
After graduating, I continued working at GetYourGuide for several more months while developing my application in parallel. Later, I decided to fully focus on my own business, in which I create websites for large companies. However, my top priority became the application – a project I treat as a mission and from which I derive enormous satisfaction.
2. What was the most valuable lesson or skill you learned during your MBA at BI?
The most valuable lesson for me was gaining a new perspective on running a business – understanding that there are many possible growth paths and approaches. The MBA opened my mind to a broader perspective and gave me tools for making bold decisions. I learned that the key is to act, test ideas, and improve them step by step, rather than waiting for the “perfect moment.”
3. Was there a particular course or project during your MBA that influenced your entrepreneurial thinking?
Yes – the Entrepreneurship course was particularly important. It was during this course that I worked on the concept of my application, which I later brought to life. Thanks to this course, I learned the processes of introducing innovations and building business strategies from scratch.
4. How did your time at BI shape your approach to innovation and business strategy?
My studies taught me that innovation is not only about major technological revolutions – it’s also about identifying everyday problems and creating solutions that genuinely make life easier for users. Today, my approach is based on quickly releasing an MVP, collecting feedback, and implementing improvements based on the real needs of the market.
5. What inspired you to create this mobile application?
The inspiration came from my own experience. As an active person, I often struggled to find people to play football with. Organizing such games was often difficult and time-consuming, while technology could make it much easier. That’s how the idea for Meet and Play was born – an application that helps people find playing partners and organize sports events in their area.
6. How did the idea evolve from concept to reality?
From my own experience, I knew how big of a challenge it could be to find people to play with and organize sports meetings effectively. So I decided to create a solution that would eliminate this problem. I personally prepared a complete design of the application in Figma, and then developed it step by step, adapting features to the real needs of users. Over time, thanks to their feedback, I expanded the app to include multiple sports, a notification system, chat functionality, and an advanced event management mechanism. The entire process was based on continuous improvement – implementing and testing ideas that best met the expectations of the community.
7. What challenges did you face in launching the app, and how did you overcome them?
The biggest challenge was backend infrastructure costs as the user base grew. At one point, I realized that at a large scale, the costs could become very high. That’s why I decided to remove or redesign some features. This way, I optimized the app and kept it stable without incurring excessive expenses.
8. If you could go back to your MBA days, what advice would you give your younger self?
Don’t wait for the perfect moment – start right away. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes and treat failures as a natural part of the growth process.
9. Where can we find and try your app?
Meet and Play is available for free in Google Play and the App Store. You can download it, create your own event, or join existing ones in your area. At the moment, it operates in Poland, where I am testing it nationwide, but in the future, I plan to launch it in Germany, with Berlin being the first test location.
Radosław Piotrowski’s journey from MBA student to tech entrepreneur is a powerful reminder that innovation often starts with a simple, everyday problem – and the courage to solve it. His story shows how the tools, mindset, and confidence gained during the MBA can serve as a springboard for building something meaningful.
We thank Radosław for sharing his inspiring journey with us and wish him continued success as Meet and Play grows beyond borders.
