Yüksel Pöğün-Zander was born in Izmir. She started her undergraduate training in architecture at the Catholic University of America (Washington D.C.) in 1992 and completed her studies at the Istanbul Technical University in 1997. She received her Master’s and PhD degrees in architecture at the Izmir Institute of Technology, where she worked as a research and teaching assistant. Some of her research interests include intercultural exchange in the history of architecture and design with a focus on Germany and Turkey, exhibition and fair design and the design of workspaces. She has worked as a freelance architect in Istanbul, Izmir and Berlin and as the coordinator of the Architecture and Interior Design Programs of Bahcesehir University’s Berlin Campus.
Prof. Pöğün-Zander, PhD teaches theoretical and practical courses in the Architecture and Interior Architecture/Interior Design programs on the Bachelor and Master level. She was one of the founding professors of Berlin International, where she served first as the Head of the BA Interior Design program (2014–2016) and the Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and Design (2016–2020). Since March 2020 she is the President of BI.
