BI meets President Steinmeier
Young scientists with the President of Germany, dr. Frank-Walter Steinmeier, at a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Berlin Social Science Center (WZB). Berlin International's chancellor Turgut Tülü was a part of it.
The young researchers of the WZB and the President discussed the state of our democracy and radical changes that have occurred in recent years.
The dialogue was opened with a presentation of highlights from WZB's research. Seongcheol Kim brought the notion of a radical understanding of democracy into the debate, reflecting on the relationship between democracy and populism. Susanne Veit talked about populist attitudes and analyzed, among other things, why people with populist beliefs often disapprove of immigrants. Thorsten Thiel described the characteristics of a digitally public and how it may be perceived.
