Since 2015, Berlin International has been participating in programs under the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education. Currently, we have 27 partner universities across Europe under the Erasmus + program fold, with whom we offer exchange opportunities. As a university with a special focus on internationality, we enjoy and value the diversity of our staff and students, and welcome exchange students to join us for an academic semester and for extracurricular activities.
If you want to join Berlin International as an Erasmus exchange student, please make sure that your home university is one of our current partner universities. Your international / exchange / Erasmus office at home can easily confirm.
Please do also note, that in order to join us as an Erasmus student, your home university first needs to nominate you. This means that you first need to apply through your home university - and if you are nominated, the second step would be to apply directly to us. Your application would then be considered competitively with those of students from other universities, and our Erasmus committee would decide on which students to choose for the next semester.
The deadline to be nominated by your home university is:
31 October of each year for the following Spring semester at Berlin International
30 April of each year for the following Fall semester at Berlin International
After nomination, the deadline to submit your personal application directly to us is:
15 November of each year for the following Spring semester at Berlin International
15 May of each year for the following Sall semester at Berlin International
If you are joining us during your Bachelor studies, please note that you will be placed into the 2nd year at our university. Thus, if you come in Fall, you will take the courses in the 3rd semester of the respective study program. If you come in Spring, you will take the courses in the 4th semester of the respective program. Modules outside of 3rd and 4th semester here are not open to exchange students due to capacity and logistics. You will be placed in all courses of the respective semester here, unless together with your home university you prepare a learning agreement that requires fewer courses. We would then register you only for the courses that you actually need. Participation in courses across different study programs is unfortunately not possible.
For students interested in joining our MA / MBA study programs, participation could take place in the courses in the 3rd semester (Spring semester, March-June) - subject to available capacity. As the MA and MBA programs are taught in particularly small learning groups, the capacity is naturally limited and exchange students may not always be possible to admit. Upon individual request, we can check the availability of a spot for an exchange student in these programs.
Two additional remarks:
• Please note that Erasmus stays are usually limited to the duration of one semester only. Only upon urgent request by any of our partner universities we would check capacity and potentially allow for an extension after the nomination and application periods are complete, once we have an overview of new applicants and any remaining capacity.
• Please note that we usually receive more applications from students than we can place. The application process is thus competitive. Design students should prepare their portfolios with care. Business students should pay special consideration to preparing their letter of motivation (outlining why a stay at Berlin International and participation in the specific courses of the chosen study program would be beneficial to their studies and personal development).
After successful nomination from your home university, please do also not hesitate to contact firstname.lastname@example.org for any questions that you may.
We are looking forward to receiving your applications - and hope that you may have an exciting, challenging and enjoyable Erasmus stay at Berlin International University of Applied Sciences.
