since 2015, Berlin International has been participating in programs under the Erasmus Charta of Higher Education. Currently we are exchanging students with 27 partner universities across Europe under the Erasmus + program fold. As a university with a special focus on internationality, we enjoy and cherish the diversity of our staff and student members, and welcome exchange students to our courses and extracurricular activities.
If you want to join Berlin International as an Erasmus exchange student, please make sure that your home university is one of our current partner universities. Your international / exchange / Erasmus office at home can easily confirm.
Please do also note, that in order to join us as an Erasmus student, your home university first needs to nominate you. This means that you first need to apply at your home university - and if your are nominated, then in a second step you would apply directly to us. Then your application would be considered competitively with those of students from other universities, and our Erasmus committee would decide on which students to choose for the next semester.
The deadline to be nominated by your home university is:
31 October of each year for the following spring semester at Berlin International
30 April of each year for the following fall semester at Berlin International
The deadline to then submit your personal application directly to us after nomination is:
15 November of each year for the following spring semester at Berlin International
15 May of each year for the following fall semester at Berlin International
If you are joining us during your Bachelor studies, please note that you will be placed into the 2nd year at our university. Thus, if you come in fall, you'll take the courses of the 3rd semester of the respective study program. If you come in spring, you'll take the courses of the 4th semester of the respective program. The courses of the other study years here are not open to exchange students due to capacity and logistical reasons. You will be placed in all courses of the respective semester here, unless together with your home university you prepare a learning agreement that requires less courses. Then we would register you only for the courses that you actually need. Participation in courses from different study programs is unfortunately not possible.
For students interested in joining our MA / MBA study programs, participation would take place in the courses of the first year - if there is available capacity. Since the MA and MBA programs are taught in specially small learning groups, the capacity is naturally limited and exchange students may not always be possible to admit. Upon individual request, we can check up on the availability of a spot for an exchange student in any of these programs.
Two additional remarks:
• Please note that Erasmus stays are usually limited to the duration of one semester only. Only upon urgent request by any of our partner universities could we check up on capacity and potentially allow for an extension after the nomination and application periods are complete and we have an overview of the new applicants and any remaining capacity.
• Please note that we usually receive applications from more students than we can place. The application process is thus competitive. Design students should prepare their portfolios with care. Business students should pay special consideration to preparing their letter of moitivation (outlining why a stay at Berlin International and participation in the specific courses of the chosen study program would be benefitial to their studies and personal development).
Please do also not hesitate to contact our International Office (Tim David Kremser, firstname.lastname@example.org) for any questions that you may have after your successful nomination at home.
We are looking forward to receiving your applications - and hope that you may have an exciting, challenging and enjoyable Erasmus stay at Berlin International University of Applied Sciences.
