Güven Günaltay studied industrial design at the Istanbul Technical University (graduate industrial product designer) and product and textile design at the Universität der Künste Berlin (Diplom Designer). During his design studies he was enrolled in classical singing classes at the Istanbul State Conservatory and musicology classes at the Humboldt University in Berlin. In 2007 Günaltay began his professional career with the exhibition „Turkish Delight - Design from Turkey“ at the Pergamon Museum in Berlin. As a curator, he exposed contemporary Turkish design and explored the influences of artistic und cultural traditions on the Turkish designers. Between 2009 and 2010 Günaltay was a member of the Directorate General of the Dresden State Art Collections and he directed the inauguration of the permanent exhibition “Türckische Cammer”, the oldest collection of Ottoman art in Germany. In 2011, he initiated the “Bildungsprogramm Kulturgeschichten” of the Museum of Islamic Art in Berlin and was the head of this education program until April 2015.
Between 2009 and 2015 Günaltay organized different cultural events for the Federal Foreign Office, the Senate of the State Berlin and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). His projects have been funded by i. a. the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and Media, the Capital Cultural Fund, Garanti Bank, Semiha Şakir Foundation Turkey and Bahçeşehir University Istanbul. He was also a visiting lecturer at the Universität der Künste and Bahçeşehir University in Berlin. Since May 2015 Günaltay is a member of the Berlin International - University of Applied Sciences as the director of the Center for Intercultural Dialog.
